Social Skills Group is designed for school-age children who experience social communication difficulties often paired with a diagnosis of autism. We teach social skills to help your child make and keep friends, as well as build confidence.
Children are arranged based on similar skill sets. Groups are led by a therapist(s)* who is in turn, closely supervised by Board Certified Behaviour Analysts to ensure progress is made and the highest level of care is provided. The group dynamic provides children with the opportunity to learn social skills directly from therapists as well as through the natural course of cooperating and interacting with each other. Our curriculum includes fun, age-appropriate activities to teach conversation, sportsmanship, and friendship skills. Arts and crafts, board games, movement and gross motor activities, and occasional community outings are all used to motivate and engage.
Social Skills Group has continuous enrollment and runs year round to ensure continuity for your child. Families enrolled in our centre-based services have access to a web-based parent portal to view session notes. In addition, the parent portal provides 24/7 access to how-to videos and printable resources to help you understand, teach, and communicate better with your child.
Prerequisite skills for Social Skills Group include an ability to communicate verbally using simple sentences, and to participate in a group setting without challenging behaviours requiring one-to-one support.
* Registered Behaviour Technicians and Behaviour Interventionists are referred to as therapists
